How It Works

How The Hunt Works

01

Timed To The Tide

Your captain picks the departure around that day’s low tide — when the flats give up their best.

02

Run To The Flats

Remote island bars and passes the beach crowds can’t reach — that’s where concentration happens.

03

Hunt The Wrack Line

Your guide shows you where shells stack and how to spot the keepers — bring a bag or bucket.

04

Live Shell Check

Florida law protects living shells. Your guide helps you tell empty treasures from occupied homes.

Prime season. Winter cold fronts churn the Gulf and negative low tides expose the flats — the best shelling window of the year.

Good Questions

Can I keep the shells I find?
Empty shells, yes. Florida law prohibits collecting live shells or shells with living creatures inside — your guide will help you check every find before it goes in the bucket.
How much does it cost?
$600 per group — private boat, up to 6 guests, extra hours $100/hr. Book at aowefl.com/booking.
Where do we go shelling?
Remote island flats and sandbars reachable only by boat — Tarpon Springs’ unpopulated tidal flats are our standout, with Shell Key (St. Pete) and Caladesi (Clearwater) also producing.
What should I bring?
A bucket or mesh bag, water shoes, sunscreen, hat, and water. Mesh bags are best — they rinse the sand as you go.
When should I book?
Cruises run by reservation, 7 days a week. Weekends and sunset slots fill first — book a few days ahead, or call/text 352-587-3422 for same-day availability.
